a5c7b9f00b The Martians unchain a direct assault to our planet, with hundreds of invulnerable ships. The invasion takes place all over the world, and all the major cities are destroyed one after one–even the atomic bomb can't stop them. But if the humans can't beat them, who can? Maybe something MUCH smaller…. It's the 20th century and, to the unsuspecting human population, Martians are appearing on Earth with destruction on their mind. While everyone panics, Dr. Clayton Forrester and Sylvia Van Buren join together in hiding out away from all the mayhem. This is a very well produced version of H.G. Well's radio play about an invasion from Mars. Barre Lyndon adapted the screenplay and Byron Haskin directed. You can watch this movie today and the special effects are still impressive. The paranoia and fear are still effective. Gene Barry is the leading star, getting help from Ann Robinson and Les Tremayne. Another feather in the cap of famed producer George Pal. Laser beams become art. *Spoiler/plot- War of the Worlds, 1953. A loosely followed H.G. Wells story about the invasion of Earth by the creatures of Mars in their spaceship and aircraft.

*Special Stars- Gene Barry, Ann Robinson, Les Tremayne.

*Theme- God in his greatness protects the Earthlings.

*Trivia/location/goofs- COLOR. Locations- Westminster Presbyterian Church - 1757 North Lake Avenue, Pasadena, California. The Flying Wing depicted in the movie is the Northrop YB-49. Cartoon animator Walter Lantz and George Pal were close friends and cartoon character Woody Woodpecker always appears on George Pal filmsa homage to Lantz. Look for the wires with the Martian machines moving on the ground.

*Emotion- An enjoyable piece of moralistic plot mixed in with some wonder EFX and acting. One of the greats. The remakes are not half waygood.

*Based On- The Cold War invasion and rocket exploration fears.
